Bio Hazard Waste

Bio Hazard waste is defined as items that have come into contact with a potential infectious agent and must be disposed of in a red biohazard waste bag. These items include but are not limited to: blood soaked items, gauze, bandages, specimen cups, items containing dried blood or other fluids, gloves, gowns, intravenous bags, soft plastic items, table paper, personal protective equipment, closed and sealed disposable sharps containers and leak-proof containers of liquids. Proper packaging and disposal of bio hazard waste is required by California and Federal agencies. ATI has a full range of medical waste disposable programs.


CHEMOTHERAPY WASTE

Chemotherapy waste Includes expired drugs, aborted dosages, contaminated personal protective equipment, etc. Chemotherapy waste is defined as items that have been contaminated through contact with or have previously contained chemotherapeutic agents. These items include: empty syringes, pipettes, pads, gauze, glass vials, bottles, items generated in the preparation and administration of cytotoxicdrugs, intravenous solution bags and attached tubing, gloves, gowns and personal protective equipment. Sharps Waste

ATI provides a range of sharps disposal programs that are specifically designed for the safe storage and disposal of contaminated needles. Sharps waste is defined as items or devices with sharp edges, protruding tips, corners or pieces that can slice, cut, scrape or pierce the skin. They may be used in the care and treatment of humans and animals, medical research and laboratory testing facilities. These items include, but are not limited to: syringes and needles, glass tubes and slides, pipettes, lancets, scalpel blades, suture needles, hard plastic items, glass items, tweezers, scissors, razor blades, metal instruments and sharp objects.

Pathology waste is defined as tissue, organs, body parts and body fluid that are removed during surgery, autopsy or other medical procedures. These items include: recognizable tissue samples, placentas, biopsy tissue, amputated body parts and limbs. Dental offices also generate sharps, lancets, needles, syringes, fixer, developer, sterilizing solutions, lead foils and amalgam. Dental amalgam waste is defined as the silver-colored material used to fill and restore teeth that have cavities. It is made up of two nearly equal parts of liquid mercury.
